Rillsoft Project 9 extends the filter functionality with a free-text filter and additional selection fields such as name, code, custom fields and notes. A single entry is enough to find matching activities, resources or portfolio entries.

What the free-text filter does

A simple keyword or a combination of several terms displays everything that matches the query – partial words are recognized too. The free-text filter therefore replaces tedious click paths through predefined selection lists.

Where the free-text filter is available

  • Views – Gantt, personnel view, capacity view and more
  • Resource pool – search employees, machines, materials
  • Portfolio properties – narrow down projects in the portfolio

Benefits in project work

Fast and effective search – hits in large data sets without column knowledge: a term that appears anywhere in the data is enough.

Flexibility – partial words, combinations of multiple terms and search in custom fields are all possible. Queries can be tuned precisely to the information needed.

Consistency across areas – the same search mechanism for activities, resources and portfolio – no relearning per view.

Example: combined search in the portfolio

In the portfolio of a mid-sized industrial company a combination like Müller Electronics 2026 lists all projects of the customer Müller in the electronics segment with a reference to 2026 – without setting customer, sector and date filters individually.

Frequently asked questions(FAQ)

The free-text filter is a search function that filters activities, resources and portfolio entries by a keyword or a combination of multiple terms. Partial words and entries in custom fields are also found.

The filter is available in three areas: in all views (e.g. Gantt, personnel view), in the resource pool and in the portfolio properties.

Searched fields include standard fields such as name and code, all custom fields, notes and other selection fields. This makes it possible to reliably find activities with special markings or free-form comments.

Yes. Multiple terms in one query are accepted, which narrows the result list precisely – for example customer name plus status, or qualification plus location.

Classic filters rely on predefined fields and values. The free-text filter accepts arbitrary search terms, including partial words, and is therefore more flexible for large portfolios with many activities and resources.
