This guide takes you through the initial installation of Rillsoft Project in 6 steps.
Before you start
- Installation and use are only possible on Windows 10 or Windows 11 and the corresponding Windows Server versions.
- If Rillsoft Project is installed in a network, the network drives must have the same drive mapping.
- The software is generally installed for all users of the computer.
- A floating installation is carried out in the same way as a single-user installation – a common setup is available for both installation types. Requirements: the data directory is located in the network and the regular users need write and read permissions for this data directory.
Step 1 – Start the setup
After downloading, click the file rp90en.exe. If User Account Control is active, you will receive a notice about the started file and an identified publisher – confirm it with Yes.
At the beginning, the setup routine prepares the installer. Then confirm the welcome screen with Next.
Step 2 – Accept the license terms
Read the license agreement. If you agree, check the „I accept the terms of the license agreement“ checkbox and click Next. Otherwise, cancel the installation.
Step 3 – Set the program directory
On the Program Directory screen, specify the directory where the program files will be placed. Use the Change button to adjust the directory; selecting network drives is generally possible. Confirm your selection with Next.
Step 4 – Set the data directory
On the Data Directory screen, specify the directory where data such as the resource pool, projects etc. will be stored. Use Change to open the Change target directory screen; confirm your selection with OK.
The program and data directories suggested on the screens are only examples and not mandatory defaults.
Note for the floating installation
For client installations, enter the shared data directory with the network path here.
Alternative: You can also place the data directory of the floating license locally (e.g. on drive „C:“) during installation. When starting Rillsoft Project for the first time, select „File > Resource Pool > File > Create“. In the Save as… dialog, first select the directory with the network path, enter RillPrj as the file name and click Save.
Switching from a local data directory to the network path: If you saved locally during the trial phase and already created resources or calendars, you can switch at any time. Copy the resource pool file (always shown in the left corner of the status bar) from the local directory to the directory with the network path, then switch to that file via „File > Resource Pool > File > Select“.
Step 5 – Run the installation
Confirm your selection of the data directory with Next and then click Install. The installation now runs.
Step 6 – Finish the installation
After a successful installation, close the screen with Finish. If the Start Rillsoft Project option is checked, the program starts immediately.
When you start a trial or test version for the first time, a version selection dialog appears. Here you select the version you want to test. If you check „Don’t display again“, the selected version stays active for the trial period – otherwise you can select a different version each time you start.
